"Facts do not convey truth. That's a mistake. Facts create norms, but truth creates illumination."
Werner Herzog
Documentaries can serve many different purposes. Whether it be to inform, to entertain, or to encourage the audience to take action, these objectives are defined by the intent of the filmmaker and the type of documentary. There are six different modes of documentaries. Poetic, expository, observational, participatory, reflexive, and performative.
What I truly love about documentary-making is that I get exposed to all sorts of people and have the opportunity to tell a story from their point of view. Personally, being able to understand individuals from their perspective allows me to think more critically. More importantly, learning more about profiles has made me reflect on my life as well, especially since the themes being explored relate to humanity and society as a whole. I am able to grow as a person through my experience of telling the stories of others.
