ACTING SHOWREEL
"Art is about showing us who we are, not who we should be."
Andrew scott
As a child, much of my relationship with my younger brother was formed through an imaginative game we played, embodying different characters and voices that matched their egos and quirks. We created this little country called Queensland (we grew up living at Queenstown) and I was this egomaniacal President whom I named Arnold much to my love for almonds. My brother, Gabriel, named his character, Mr Gabriel (it was really original). Both our characters would banter and fight for influence over the citizens of our imagined Queensland and we would take on other characters which were formed to aid our cause. There was a greedy mayor, lazy policemen constantly bought over by donuts, and a whole barbershop choir (we even created our own songs and sang them)! We rarely had 'normal' conversations, we communicated through these characters. As we grew up, these characters still stayed with us and whenever we greeted each other when we were home, we would still do so in the voices of our characters, sometimes we would pick up where we left off.
This constant role-playing fostered within me a deep appreciation for storytelling and the power of transformation. Embodying these exaggerated characters, from the pompous President Arnold to the lazy policemen, allowed me to explore different personalities, experiment with voices and accents, and discover the nuances of human behavior. It taught me to observe people, to understand their motivations, and to communicate effectively through characterization. This early exploration of character and narrative sparked my curiosity for acting, providing me with a safe space to experiment, express myself, and discover the joy of bringing fictional worlds to life.
During my degree at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, I have performed in roles such as:
- Russell (Charged)
- Rubek (When We Dead Awaken)
- Claudio (Measure for Measure)
- Yang Sun (The Good Person of Szechwan)
- Macbeth (Macbeth)
- Doug (Gruesome Playground Injuries) https://youtu.be/TmVihYONVyg
